What can you do with limited power?

I can't believe where I'm at in my life right now. I am 43 (I think) and cooked supper tonight on my Coleman camping stove, not because I'm camping but because my propane BBQ ran out of propane. I decided to BBQ hamburgers on the BBQ not because it's especially warm and beautiful outside here in Calgary, but because I can't cook anything on my stove inside. It's not that I didn't want to cook inside using a convenient modern method of preparing a meal it's just that I am limited as to how much power I can use. It's not that I'm especially concerned about the environment (although I am) that I have purposed to go to this extreme to save electricity, it's just that this nice fellow from the electric company came to visit on Thursday. I'm sure it was nothing personal because we just met for the first time and I was kind enough to grant him safety clearance into the backyard, where our big dog lay sleeping so that he could "read the meter", only he didn't read the meter how he was supposed to, instead he attached a electricity limiter on our townhouse. After that we could only use a "limited" supply which didn't include my stove. The fridge is unscathed and obviously the computer can be on at the same time as the fridge but that stove will not cook even if all things are turned off. This includes me of course. "Honey" I said to my husband, "this is not improving the electricity between you and I." I wonder what else in the house will not work on limited power supply?

They must plan this out at the place where electric bills come from; a department called "What Would Expedite Overdue Bill Payment from Stay At Home Mother Household Planning Department". They came up with this plan to not shut off all of the power but just some of it. Okay truly I'm thankful that I have some power but couldn't they work it out to shut off the power to the T.V. or video games. I want to cry like the two year who lives with us, (whaaa)nnnooo (whaaaa) Noooooootttt the stoooooove.

It wouldn't be so bad if I'd had a chance to shop for groceries that don't have to be cooked. Thank God I have a slow cooker. Ever try to cook tortellini in a slower cooker (I'm sure someone out there has a very good recipe). I boiled water with the kettle, carefully making sure that I didn't have the coffee pot and the T.V. on at the same time. That would upset the power limiter and it would get mad and shut everything down. Then I'd have to go outside to the meter and calm it down and promise not to over power it again. Then I can reset the power and start over again.

Anyways I boiled the water with the kettle, poured the boiling water into the warm slow cooker. I waited for about 1/2 hour, I don't know why because I'm sure a "s l o w" cooker wouldn't boil it faster that it had already been boiled. Anyways my way says to wait 1/2 hour so I did. Then I dumped in the frozen tortellini and waited again for about another 1/2 hour. The tortellini were floating so I knew they were done. Presto Magico and yum, yum, yum. I've decided to call it Mushellini and I may actually increase the cooking time so that the dish could be prepared in the morning, to be ready for the evening meal.

Oh did I mention that my husband worked out of our basement today and ran his router and dust collector at the same time. Power hungry as he was, I decided to relenquish my limited power and decided to take the day off of laundry and vacuuming.
